How I came to masonry in San Diego
I learned masonry in San Diego as a helper on a small crew, mixing mortar and hauling block while the older hands laid brick. A lot of what they did was fix what someone else had gotten wrong, and I paid attention to that. In 2023 I started Artisan San Diego Concrete & Masonry to do the work the way they taught me.
Around San Diego, most of our calls are about crumbling joints, a tired chimney or a yard project someone wants done right the first time. We're best known for careful repair of worn mortar and brick, and for walls built to suit the lot they sit on. Good masonry should look like it belongs to your house and keep water out of the wall, and you can see the kinds of work we take on from our home page.
We fix what has failed and leave the rest. I'll tell you when a small repair will do.
How we run a masonry job
It starts with me coming out to your place to look at the wall, chimney or yard and hear what you want. I give you the estimate right there, so we're both looking at the same brick while we talk about it. Our own masons and helpers do the work, and when it's finished we clean up the mortar, block scraps and dust before we call it done.
While the work is going, I'm on site checking it as it goes, so you have one person to ask and you get a straight answer. If we open up a wall and find something we didn't expect, I'll show you what we found and talk it through with you before the plan changes.
